Ninguém pode vir a mim a não ser que lhe seja concedido pelo Pai.

Evangelho - João 6,60-69

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo João – Naquele tempo, ⁶⁰muitos dos discípulos de Jesus que o escutaram, disseram: “Esta palavra é dura. Quem consegue escutá-la?” ⁶¹Sabendo que seus discípulos estavam murmurando por causa disso mesmo, Jesus perguntou: “Isto vos escandaliza? ⁶²E quando virdes o Filho do homem subindo para onde estava antes? ⁶³O Espírito é que dá vida, a carne não adianta nada. As palavras que vos falei são espírito e vida. ⁶⁴Mas entre vós há alguns que não creem”. Jesus sabia, desde o início, quem eram os que não tinham fé e quem havia de entregá-lo. ⁶⁵E acrescentou: “É por isso que vos disse: ninguém pode vir a mim a não ser que lhe seja concedido pelo Pai”. ⁶⁶A partir daquele momento, muitos discípulos voltaram atrás e não andavam mais com ele. ⁶⁷Então, Jesus disse aos doze: “Vós também vos quereis ir embora?” ⁶⁸Simão Pedro respondeu: “A quem iremos, Senhor? Tu tens palavras de vida eterna. ⁶⁹Nós cremos firmemente e reconhecemos que tu és o santo de Deus”. – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel - John 6,60-69

Proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ according to John - At that time, many of the disciples of Jesus who heard him said, "This word is hard. Who can listen to it? Refletindo o Evangelho

O “comer o pão e beber o sangue” de Jesus não desconcertou apenas os judeus, mas os próprios discípulos reconheceram que eram “palavras duras demais”. O Mestre não recua e se mantém firme no seu ensinamento, revelando o Pai. A conclusão do capítulo seis de João mostra a realidade de crise e dúvida da comunidade joanina no final do primeiro século da era cristã. Com suas palavras, Jesus decepcionou muitas pessoas e provocou uma decisão: continuar com ele ou abandoná-lo. Pergunta aos mais próximos (os Doze) se também querem abandoná-lo. Em nome da comunidade, Pedro renova a fé e a confiança no Messias e proclama: “Tu tens palavras de vida eterna”. Reconhece, portanto, que Jesus é mais que um simples humano, ele é o “Santo de Deus”. A resposta de Pedro é a resposta de todo discípulo e discípula que decide seguir o Mestre. A dúvida das primeiras comunidades joaninas – crer ou não crer em Jesus – talvez tenha sido a mesma crise que o cristianismo vive em nossos dias. Pois é justamente nos momentos de crise que se definem os verdadeiros seguidores de Jesus.

Reflecting the Gospel

"Jesus' "eating the bread and drinking the blood" did not just disconcert the Jews, but the disciples themselves recognized that they were "too hard words." The conclusion of the sixth chapter of John shows the reality of crisis and doubt of the Johannine community at the end of the first century of the Christian era. With his words, Jesus disappointed many people and made a decision: to continue with him or abandon him. Ask the closest ones (the Twelve) if they also want to abandon you. In the name of the community, Peter renews faith and trust in the Messiah and proclaims: "Thou hast the words of eternal life." He acknowledges, therefore, that Jesus is more than a mere human, he is the "Holy One of God." Peter's answer is the response of every disciple and disciple who decides to follow the Master. The doubt of the early Johannine communities - believing or not believing in Jesus - may have been the same crisis that Christianity is experiencing today. For it is precisely in moments of crisis that the true followers of Jesus are defined."
