Evangelho - João 1,45-51

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo João – ⁴⁵Filipe encontrou-se com Natanael e lhe disse: “Encontramos aquele de quem Moisés escreveu na lei e também os profetas: Jesus de Nazaré, o filho de José”. ⁴⁶Natanael disse: “De Nazaré pode sair coisa boa?” Filipe respondeu: “Vem ver!” ⁴⁷Jesus viu Natanael, que vinha para ele, e comentou: “Aí vem um israelita de verdade, um homem sem falsidade”. ⁴⁸Natanael perguntou: “De onde me conheces?” Jesus respondeu: “Antes que Filipe te chamasse, enquanto estavas debaixo da figueira, eu te vi”. ⁴⁹Natanael respondeu: “Rabi, tu és o Filho de Deus, tu és o rei de Israel”. ⁵⁰Jesus disse: “Tu crês porque te disse: Eu te vi debaixo da figueira? Coisas maiores que esta verás!” ⁵¹E Jesus continuou: “Em verdade, em verdade, eu vos digo, vereis o céu aberto e os anjos de Deus subindo e descendo sobre o Filho do homem”. – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel - John 1,45-51

Proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ according to John - 45Philip met Nathanael and said to him, "We find the one of whom Moses wrote in the law, and also the prophets: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." 46Natanael said, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Jesus answered, "Before Philip called you, while you were under the fig tree, I saw you." 49Natanael replied, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the king of Israel." Refletindo o Evangelho

Bartolomeu, de Caná da Galileia, é identificado com Natanael. Quem lhe apresentou Jesus foi o apóstolo Filipe, que acrescentou: “Jesus vem de Nazaré”. Essa informação deu margem para algum atrito na conversa: o preconceito de Natanael contra quem era de Nazaré; a simpatia de Jesus que elogiou a autenticidade dele; o desconcerto, mas também a certeza de Natanael, reconhecendo estar diante de pessoa extraordinária: “Rabi, tu és o Filho de Deus, tu és o rei de Israel”. Cativado por Jesus, Natanael tornou-se seu apóstolo e entusiasta pregador do evangelho. Antiga tradição registra que Bartolomeu exerceu o ministério apostólico na Índia, onde converteu para Cristo grande número de pessoas. Esteve também na Armênia e na Pérsia, hoje Irã. Morreu decapitado, após ter a pele arrancada.

Reflecting the Gospel

"Bartolomeus, of Cana of Galilee, is identified with Nathanael. Who presented him Jesus was the apostle Philip, who added: "Jesus comes from Nazareth."
