Refletindo o Evangelho
Jesus faz um desabafo. Seu lamento recai sobre os dirigentes do povo, incluindo as autoridades religiosas, que buscam desculpas, em vez de se abrirem ao projeto de Deus. Não se dispuseram a mudar de vida ante os apelos severos do Batista, a quem tacharam de louco. Agora não se dispõem a converter-se, diante das palavras de misericórdia de Jesus e de seus grandes prodígios. Até o chamam de “comilão e beberrão, amigo de cobradores de impostos e pecadores”. São como crianças caprichosas: nada é capaz de despertar-lhes interesse. Nem tudo, porém, está perdido: muitos discípulos da Sabedoria, (“filhos”) que eram os desprezados pelas autoridades religiosas, ou seja, o povo simples e os pecadores, foram inteligentes, aceitando a conversão anunciada por João e o compromisso com Jesus.
