O Filho do homem virá na glória do seu Pai, com os seus anjos.

The son of man shall come in the glory of your Father, with his angels.

1a. Leitura - Jeremias 20,7-9
Leitura do livro do profeta Jeremias – 7 Seduziste-me, Senhor, e deixei-me seduzir; foste mais forte, tiveste mais poder. Tornei-me alvo de irrisão o dia inteiro, todos zombam de mim. 8 Todas as vezes que falo, levanto a voz, clamando contra a maldade e invocando calamidades; a palavra do Senhor tornou-se para mim fonte de vergonha e de chacota o dia inteiro. 9 Disse comigo: “Não quero mais lembrar-me disso nem falar mais em nome dele”. Senti, então, dentro de mim um fogo ardente a penetrar-me o corpo todo: desfaleci, sem forças para suportar. – Palavra do Senhor.

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus – Naquele tempo, 21 Jesus começou a mostrar a seus discípulos que devia ir a Jerusalém e sofrer muito da parte dos anciãos, dos sumos sacerdotes e dos mestres da lei e que devia ser morto e ressuscitar no terceiro dia. 22 Então Pedro tomou Jesus à parte e começou a repreendê-lo, dizendo: “Deus não permita tal coisa, Senhor! Que isso nunca te aconteça!” 23 Jesus, porém, voltou-se para Pedro e disse: “Vai para longe, satanás! Tu és para mim uma pedra de tropeço, porque não pensas as coisas de Deus, mas sim as coisas dos homens!” 24 Então Jesus disse aos discípulos: “Se alguém quer me seguir, renuncie a si mesmo, tome a sua cruz e me siga. 25 Pois quem quiser salvar a sua vida vai perdê-la; e quem perder a sua vida por causa de mim vai encontrá-la. 26 De fato, que adianta ao homem ganhar o mundo inteiro, mas perder a sua vida? O que poderá alguém dar em troca de sua vida? 27 Porque o Filho do homem virá na glória do seu Pai, com os seus anjos, e então retribuirá a cada um de acordo com a sua conduta”. – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel - Matthew 16,21-27

Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew - 21 at that time Jesus began to show his disciples that should go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the high priests and the teachers of the law and who should be killed and resurrected on the third day. 22 then Peter took Jesus aside and began to rebuke him, saying, "God forbid such a thing, Sir. What can someone give in Exchange for your life? 27 for the son of man shall come in the glory of your father with his angels, and then reward each one according to your standards. Refletindo o Evangelho 

A atitude de Pedro, tentando afastar Jesus do caminho da cruz, mostra que sua concepção a respeito do Messias precisa de alguns ajustes. É que Pedro e os demais discípulos acreditavam num Messias glorioso, triunfante, capaz de eliminar pela força os ocupantes romanos. Ao passo que Jesus é o Servo sofredor. Sua luta pela justiça implicará o sacrifício da própria vida. Na verdade, a vida de Jesus será tirada pelos dirigentes do povo: anciãos, chefes dos sacerdotes e doutores da Lei. Sua morte na cruz trará a vitória da justiça e do projeto de Deus. Todo discípulo que for leal a Jesus e aplicar sua vida por Deus em favor do seu povo, terá sua vida resgatada e premiada por Deus: “Quem perder a própria vida por causa de mim, a encontrará”. Quanto a Jesus, Deus o ressuscitará no terceiro dia.

Reflecting the Gospel
