“O sábado foi feito para o homem, e não o homem para o sábado.”

"The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath"

1a. Leitura - 1 Samuel 16,1-13

Leitura do primeiro livro de Samuel – Naqueles dias, ¹o Senhor disse a Samuel: “Até quando ficarás chorando por causa de Saul se eu mesmo o rejeitei para que não reine mais sobre Israel? Enche o chifre de óleo e vem, para que eu te envie à casa de Jessé de Belém, pois escolhi um rei para mim entre os seus filhos”. ²Samuel ponderou: “Como posso ir? Se Saul o souber, vai me matar”. O Senhor respondeu: “Tomarás contigo uma novilha da manada e dirás: ‘Vim para oferecer um sacrifício ao Senhor’. ³Convidarás Jessé para o sacrifício. Eu te mostrarei o que deves fazer, e tu ungirás a quem eu te designar”. ⁴Samuel fez o que o Senhor lhe disse e foi a Belém. Os anciãos da cidade vieram-lhe ao encontro e perguntaram: “É de paz a tua vinda?” ⁵“Sim, é de paz”, respondeu Samuel. “Vim para fazer um sacrifício ao Senhor. Purificai-vos e vinde comigo, para que eu ofereça a vítima”. Ele purificou então Jessé e seus filhos e convidou-os para o sacrifício. ⁶Assim que chegaram, Samuel viu a Eliab e disse consigo: “Certamente é este o ungido do Senhor!” ⁷Mas o Senhor disse-lhe: “Não olhes para a sua aparência nem para a sua grande estatura, porque eu o rejeitei. Não julgo segundo os critérios do homem: o homem vê as aparências, mas o Senhor olha o coração”. ⁸Então Jessé chamou Abinadab e apresentou-o a Samuel, que disse: “Também não é este que o Senhor escolheu”. ⁹Jessé trouxe-lhe depois Sama, e Samuel disse: “A este tampouco o Senhor escolheu”. ¹⁰Jessé fez vir seus sete filhos à presença de Samuel, mas Samuel disse: “O Senhor não escolheu a nenhum deles”. ¹¹E acrescentou: “Estão aqui todos os teus filhos?” Jessé respondeu: “Resta ainda o mais novo, que está apascentando as ovelhas”. E Samuel ordenou a Jessé: “Manda buscá-lo, pois não nos sentaremos à mesa enquanto ele não chegar”. ¹²Jessé mandou buscá-lo. Era ruivo, de belos olhos e de formosa aparência. E o Senhor disse: “Levanta-te, unge-o: é este!” ¹³Samuel tomou o chifre com óleo e ungiu Davi na presença de seus irmãos. E a partir daquele dia, o espírito do Senhor se apoderou de Davi. A seguir, Samuel se pôs a caminho e voltou para Ramá. – Palavra do Senhor.

1st Reading - 1 Samuel 4,1-11

Reading the first book of Samuel - In those days, the Lord said to Samuel, "How long will you weep over Saul if I have rejected him, lest he reign over Israel? Fill the horn with oil, and come, that I may send thee into the house of Jesse of Bethlehem, because I have chosen a king for me among his sons. " 2Samuel pondered, "How can I go? If Saul knows, he's going to kill me. " The Lord answered, "You shall take with you a heifer from the herd and say, 'I have come to offer a sacrifice to the Lord.' 3 You shall bring Jesse to the sacrifice. I will show thee what thou shalt do, and thou shalt anoint whomsoever I shall appoint thee. " 4 Samuel did what the Lord told him and went to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him and asked, "Is your coming peaceable?" 5 "Yes, it is peace," answered Samuel. "I came to make a sacrifice to the Lord. Purify yourselves and come with me, that I may offer the victim. " He then purified Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. 6And when they came, Samuel saw Eliab and said to himself, "Surely this is the Lord's anointed." 7But the Lord said to him, "Do not look at his appearance or his great stature, for I have rejected him. I do not judge according to man's criteria: man sees appearances, but the Lord looks at the heart. " 8 Then Jesse called Abinadab and introduced him to Samuel, who said, "This is not the Lord's choosing." 9 Then Jesse brought him to Shammah, and Samuel said, "The Lord has not chosen this either." 10Jesus brought his seven sons to Samuel, but Samuel said, "The Lord chose none of them." 11And he added, "Are all your children here?" Jesse answered, "The youngest still remains, which is feeding the flock." And Samuel said to Jesse, "Send him to him, for we will not sit down till he comes." 12Jesse sent for him. He was red, with beautiful eyes and beautiful appearance. And the Lord said, "Arise, anoint him: this is he!" 13 Samuel took the horn with oil and anointed David in the presence of his brothers. And from that day on the spirit of the Lord came upon David. Then Samuel set out and returned to Ramah. - Word of the Lord.

 
Evangelho - Marcos 2,23-28

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Marcos – ²³Jesus estava passando por uns campos de trigo em dia de sábado. Seus discípulos começaram a arrancar espigas, enquanto caminhavam. ²⁴Então os fariseus disseram a Jesus: “Olha! Por que eles fazem em dia de sábado o que não é permitido?” ²⁵Jesus lhes disse: “Por acaso, nunca lestes o que Davi e seus companheiros fizeram quando passaram necessidade e tiveram fome? ²⁶Como ele entrou na casa de Deus, no tempo em que Abiatar era sumo sacerdote, comeu os pães oferecidos a Deus e os deu também aos seus companheiros? No entanto, só aos sacerdotes é permitido comer esses pães”. ²⁷E acrescentou: “O sábado foi feito para o homem, e não o homem para o sábado. ²⁸Portanto, o Filho do homem é senhor também do sábado”. – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel - Marcos 1,40-45

Proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ According to Mark - 23Jesus was passing through some wheat fields on a Sabbath day. His disciples began to pluck ears of corn as they walked. 24Then the Pharisees said to Jesus, "Look! Why do they do on the Sabbath day what is not allowed? "25Jesus said to them," Have you never read what David and his companions did when they were in need and they were hungry? 26How did he enter the house of God at the time that Abiathar was the high priest, and ate the bread offered to God, and gave them also to his companions? However, only priests are allowed to eat these loaves. " And he added, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 28Therefore the Son of man is lord of the sabbath also. " - Word of salvation.

Refletindo o Evangelho

Os discípulos de Jesus estão simplesmente colhendo algumas espigas para matar a fome, em dia de sábado. Isso era permitido (cf. Dt 23,25). Proibido era fazer colheita (passar a foice) na plantação alheia (cf. Dt 23,26). Os fariseus, no entanto, usando de má intenção e tentando confundir o Mestre, acusam os discípulos dele de violação da lei sabática. Rápido no raciocínio, Jesus rebate a crítica dos fariseus mostrando que o grande líder deles, Davi, alimentou a si e seus companheiros com o pão sagrado, que era reservado aos sacerdotes. Isto é, Davi se permitiu agir acima da lei, para sanar uma necessidade legítima dele e dos companheiros. Jesus deixa claro que a lei existe para beneficiar o ser humano. E revela também que ele mesmo é maior do que Davi, que eles tanto prezavam.

Reflecting the Gospel

The disciples of Jesus are simply picking up some ears to kill the famine on a Sabbath day. This was permissible (Dt 23,25). Prohibited was to harvest (sickle pass) in the other's plantation (Dt 23,26). The Pharisees, however, using malicious intent and trying to confuse the Master, accuse his disciples of violating Sabbath law. Quick in reasoning, Jesus rebuffs the Pharisees' criticism by showing that their great leader, David, fed himself and his companions with the sacred bread, which was reserved for the priests. That is, David allowed himself to act above the law, to heal a legitimate need of him and his companions. Jesus makes it clear that the law exists to benefit the human being. And he also reveals that he himself is greater than David, whom they so dearly loved.
