Joseph -  Jesus adopted father , Mary's husband and Church's patroness

Evangelho -
Mateus 1,16.18-21.24

Gospel - Matthew 1,16.18-21.24
Proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew - 16Jacob begot Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom Jesus was born, who is called the Christ. 18The origin of Jesus Christ was thus: Mary, his mother, was betrothed to Joseph and, before they lived together, she became pregnant by the action of the Holy Spirit. 19Jesus, her husband, was just and, not wanting to denounce her, decided to leave Mary in secret. 20 While Joseph thought about this, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said to him, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to receive Mary as your wife, because she conceived by the Holy Spirit. 21And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt give him the name of Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. 24When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded. - Word of salvation.

Refletindo o Evangelho

Reflecting the Gospel
The last patriarch to receive communications through dreams and declared patron of the universal Church by Pius IX, Saint Joseph is an adoptive father and guardian of the child Jesus and placed as head of the Family of Nazareth. He establishes the connection of Jesus to the seed of David. The gospels speak little of Joseph. The few mentions reveal that he was a carpenter, a descendant of the tribe of David, a righteous man. He was a silent figure, but very present in the childhood and adolescence of Jesus. The episode of Jesus' meeting in the temple is the proposed gospel for this solemnity. The account shows Joseph accompanying his family to Jerusalem, but the center of the narrative is Jesus. Even when he has earthly parents, Jesus shows his filial relationship with God, his Father, from an early age. When asked by his mother, he responds that he must care about his Father's things. Following the will of God can mean going beyond the limited horizons of family. Jesus returns with his family and lives with her until the day he takes up his prophetic and missionary mission.

Rezando
Ele, então, me invocará: ‘Ó Senhor, vós sois meu Pai, / sois meu Deus, sois meu rochedo onde encontro a salvação!’ Salmo 88/89.

Rezando
Oh Lord, I will sing your love forever, / from generation to generation I will sing your truth! / Because you said: "Love is guaranteed forever!" / And your loyalty is as firm as the heavens. "I have made an agreement with my servant, my chosen one, / and I have sworn an oath to David my servant. / I will establish your line forever in your throne, / from generation to generation I will guarantee your reign! He will then call upon me: O Lord, you are my Father, / you are my God, you are my rock where I find salvation!' / I will keep my grace for him / forever and with him I will establish my indissoluble covenant." Psalm 88 / 89.
