1a. Leitura

Leitura do livro do Gênesis 4,1-15.25 – 1Adão conheceu Eva, sua mulher, e ela concebeu e deu à luz Caim, dizendo: “Gerei um homem com a ajuda do Senhor”. 2E deu também à luz Abel, irmão de Caim. Abel foi pastor de ovelhas e Caim, agricultor. 3Aconteceu, tempos depois, que Caim ofereceu frutos da terra como sacrifício ao Senhor 4e Abel ofereceu primogênitos do seu rebanho, com sua gordura. O Senhor olhou para Abel e sua oferenda, 5mas para Caim e sua oferenda não olhou. Caim encheu-se de cólera, e seu rosto tornou-se abatido. 6Então o Senhor perguntou a Caim: “Por que estás cheio de cólera e andas com o rosto abatido? 7É verdade que, se fizeres o bem, andarás de cabeça erguida; mas se fizeres o mal, o pecado estará à porta, espreitando-te. Tu, porém, poderás dominá-lo”. 8Caim disse a seu irmão, Abel: “Vamos ao campo”. Logo que chegaram ao campo, Caim atirou-se sobre o seu irmão, Abel, e matou-o. 9E o Senhor perguntou a Caim: “Onde está o teu irmão Abel?” Ele respondeu: “Não sei. Acaso sou o guarda do meu irmão?” 10O Senhor lhe disse: “Que fizeste? A voz do sangue do teu irmão está clamando por mim da terra. 11Agora, pois, serás amaldiçoado pela terra que abriu a boca para receber das tuas mãos o sangue do teu irmão! 12Quando tu a cultivares, ela te negará seus frutos. E serás um fugitivo, vagando sobre a terra”. 13Caim disse ao Senhor: “Meu castigo é grande demais para que eu o possa suportar. 14Se, hoje, me expulsas desta terra, devo esconder-me de ti, tornando-me um fugitivo a vaguear sobre a terra; qualquer um que me encontrar me matará”. 15E o Senhor lhe disse: “Não! Mas aquele que matar Caim será punido sete vezes!” O Senhor pôs, então, um sinal em Caim, para que ninguém, ao encontrá-lo, o matasse. 25Adão conheceu de novo sua mulher. Ela deu à luz um filho, a quem chamou Set, dizendo: “O Senhor deu-me um outro descendente no lugar de Abel, que Caim matou”. – Palavra do Senhor.

Reading from the book of Genesis 4, 1-15. 25 - 1 And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bare Cain, saying, "I have begotten a man with the Lord's help." 2And Abel, the brother of Cain, bare him. Abel was a shepherd and Cain the farmer. 3And it came to pass afterward, that Cain offered the fruits of the land as a sacrifice unto the LORD. 4 And Abel offered the firstborn of his flock with his fatness. The Lord looked at Abel and his offering, but at Cain and his offering did not look. Cain was filled with wrath, and his countenance became despondent. 6Then the Lord said to Cain, "Why are you filled with wrath and walk with a downcast face? 7It is true that if you do good, you will walk with your head held high; but if you do evil, sin will be at the door, stalking you. But you can control it. " 8Caim said to his brother Abel, "Let us go to the country." As soon as they came to the camp, Cain threw himself on his brother Abel and killed him. 9And the Lord said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" He answered, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper? "The Lord said to him," What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying out for me from the earth. 11But now you will be cursed by the land that opened your mouth to receive the blood of your brother from your hands! 12When you cultivate it, it will deny you its fruits. And you will be a fugitive, wandering on the earth. " 13Caim said to the Lord, "My punishment is too great for me to bear. 14If today you drive me out of this land, I must hide myself from you, becoming a fugitive to wander on the earth; Anyone who finds me will kill me. " 15And the Lord said to him, "No! But whoever kills Cain will be punished seven times! "The Lord then set a mark on Cain, so that no one would kill him when he met him. 25And Adam knew his wife again. E, para pô-lo à prova, pediam-lhe um sinal do céu. 12Mas Jesus deu um suspiro profundo e disse: “Por que esta gente pede um sinal? Em verdade vos digo, a esta gente não será dado nenhum sinal”. 13E, deixando-os, Jesus entrou de novo na barca e se dirigiu para a outra margem. – Palavra da salvação.

Refletindo o Evangelho 

Os fariseus, conhecidos por sua rigorosa observância da Lei, em geral não aceitam os ensinamentos de Jesus nem seu modo de agir. Em vários episódios, eles se unem aos doutores da Lei para porem Jesus à prova, e se possível fazê-lo cair na armadilha. Não obstante todas as obras maravilhosas realizadas por Jesus no meio do povo, os fariseus lhe pedem um sinal do céu, algo mais extraordinário do que estão vendo. Jesus simplesmente se recusa a dar espetáculo gratuito. Não busca o aplauso das pessoas, mas a conversão delas. Realizando as obras que o Pai o encarregou de fazer, Jesus quer atingir os corações humanos e levá-los ao caminho da vida e da liberdade. Não encontrando aqui terreno fértil para sua mensagem, retira-se de barco para outro lugar, em busca de pessoas com melhores disposições.

Reflecting the Gospel 

The Pharisees, known for their strict observance of the Law, generally do not accept the teachings of Jesus or his way of acting. In several episodes, they join the doctors of the Law to put Jesus to the test, and if possible make him fall into the trap. Notwithstanding all the marvelous works performed by Jesus in the midst of the people, the Pharisees ask him for a sign from heaven, something more extraordinary than they are seeing. Jesus simply refuses to give a free show. It does not seek the applause of people, but the conversion of them. By performing the works that the Father commissioned him to do, Jesus wants to reach human hearts and lead them to the path of life and freedom. Not finding here fertile ground for his message, he retires by boat to another place, in search of people with better dispositions.
