Leitura da carta aos Hebreus 13,15-17.20-21 – Irmãos, 15por meio de Jesus, ofereçamos a Deus um perene sacrifício de louvor, isto é, o fruto dos lábios que celebram o seu nome. 16Não vos esqueçais das boas ações e da comunhão, pois esses são os sacrifícios que agradam a Deus. 17Obedecei aos vossos líderes e segui suas orientações, porque eles cuidam de vós como quem há de prestar contas. Que possam fazê-lo com alegria e não com queixas, que não seriam coisa boa para vós. 20O Deus da paz, que fez subir dentre os mortos aquele que se tornou, pelo sangue de uma aliança eterna, o grande pastor das ovelhas, nosso Senhor Jesus, 21vos torne aptos a todo bem, para fazerdes a sua vontade; que ele realize em nós o que lhe é agradável, por Jesus Cristo, ao qual seja dada a glória pelos séculos dos séculos. Amém! – Palavra do Senhor.

1st. Reading 

Reading the letter to the Hebrews 13,15-17,20-21 - Brethren, through Jesus, let us offer to God a perpetual sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of the lips that celebrate his name. 16 Do not forget good deeds and communion, for these are the sacrifices that please God. 17 Obey your leaders and follow their directions, for they look after you as one who is accountable. May they do it with joy and not with complaints, which would not be a good thing for you. 20The God of peace, who brought up from the dead the one who became, through the blood of an everlasting covenant, the great shepherd of the sheep, our Lord Jesus, to make him fit for good to do his will; that he may work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Minhas ovelhas escutam minha voz, eu as conheço e elas me seguem (Jo 10,27).
Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Marcos 6,30-34 – Naquele tempo, 30os apóstolos reuniram-se com Jesus e contaram tudo o que haviam feito e ensinado. 31Ele lhes disse: “Vinde sozinhos para um lugar deserto e descansai um pouco”. Havia, de fato, tanta gente chegando e saindo, que não tinham tempo nem para comer. 32Então foram sozinhos, de barco, para um lugar deserto e afastado. 33Muitos os viram partir e reconheceram que eram eles. Saindo de todas as cidades, correram a pé e chegaram lá antes deles. 34Ao desembarcar, Jesus viu uma numerosa multidão e teve compaixão, porque eram como ovelhas sem pastor. Começou, pois, a ensinar-lhes muitas coisas. – Palavra da salvação.

Refletindo o Evangelho 

Os três primeiros versículos introduzem a circunstância da morte de João Batista. Herodes manda matar João, que ele mesmo havia acorrentado no cárcere. Motivo? O que João havia feito de grave para merecer trágico fim? João Batista procurava ser coerente com a Lei e com a verdade, apontando os erros dos poderosos e do próprio casal real (adultério), e pondo em risco o poder político de Herodes. O prepotente Herodes manda tirar a vida do Batista, durante um banquete que ele oferecera “a seus magnatas, aos oficiais e às grandes personalidades da Galileia”. Nessa ocasião, faz os caprichos da filha de Herodíades, que pede a cabeça de João. Tão sem juízo a filha quanto maligna e impiedosa a mãe. O profeta se vai, mas o seu testemunho de fidelidade a Deus permanece para sempre.

Reflecting the Gospel 

The first three verses introduce the circumstance of the death of John the Baptist. Herod orders to kill John, whom he himself had chained in prison. Reason? What had John done to earn a tragic end? John the Baptist sought to be consistent with the Law and truth, pointing out the errors of the powerful and the royal couple (adultery), and endangering Herod's political power. The arrogant Herod orders to take the life of the Baptist during a banquet he had offered "to his magnates, to the officers and to the great personalities of Galilee." On this occasion he makes the whims of the daughter of Herodias, who asks for the head of John. As without judgment the daughter as malignant and ruthless the mother. The prophet is gone, but his testimony of faithfulness to God abides forever.

O Senhor é o pastor que me conduz, / não me falta coisa alguma.

The Lord is my light and salvation!
