Leitura do livro do Gênesis 2,4-9.15-17 – 4No dia em que o Senhor fez a terra e o céu, 5ainda não havia nenhum arbusto do campo sobre a terra e ainda nenhuma erva do campo tinha brotado, porque o Senhor Deus não tinha feito chover sobre a terra nem existia homem para cultivar o solo. 6Mas uma fonte brotava da terra e lhe regava toda a superfície. 7Então o Senhor Deus formou o homem do pó da terra, soprou-lhe nas narinas o sopro da vida, e o homem tornou-se um ser vivente. 8Depois, o Senhor Deus plantou um jardim em Éden, a oriente, e ali pôs o homem que havia formado. 9E o Senhor Deus fez brotar da terra toda sorte de árvores de aspecto atraente e de fruto saboroso ao paladar, a árvore da vida no meio do jardim e a árvore do conhecimento do bem e do mal. 15O Senhor Deus tomou o homem e colocou-o no jardim de Éden, para o cultivar e guardar. 16E o Senhor Deus deu ao homem uma ordem, dizendo: “Podes comer de todas as árvores do jardim, 17mas não comas da árvore do conhecimento do bem e do mal; porque, no dia em que fizeres, sem dúvida morrerás”. – Palavra do Senhor.

Os fariseus e mestres da Lei ligavam a vida espiritual a preceitos que declaram impuras certas coisas exteriores. Quem não as observava era considerado impuro ou profano. Jesus quer corrigir esse erro: “Não existe nada fora da pessoa que, ao entrar nela, possa torná-la impura”. A única coisa que pode separar de Deus o homem é o mau uso da própria liberdade. Por isso, aos discípulos Jesus reforça o conceito acima enunciado: “O que sai da pessoa, isso é que a torna impura. Porque é de dentro, do coração das pessoas, que saem as más intenções…”. Esse critério suprime toda discriminação entre os seres humanos, baseada em preceitos, ritos ou observâncias religiosas. Tudo o que foi criado por Deus é bom em si mesmo. Cada um procure no próprio coração a raiz do pecado e a raiz do amor.

The Pharisees and teachers of the Law linked the spiritual life to precepts which declare impure certain external things. He who did not observe them was considered impure or profane. Jesus wants to correct this error: "There is nothing outside the person who, when entering into it, may make it unclean." The only thing that can separate man from God is the misuse of freedom itself. Therefore, to the disciples Jesus reinforces the above-mentioned concept: "What comes out of the person, that is what makes him impure. Because it is from the inside, from the heart of the people, that the bad intentions come out ... ". This criterion suppresses all discrimination between human beings, based on precepts, rites or religious observances. Everything created by God is good in itself. Let each one seek in his own heart the root of sin and the root of love.
