Início da segunda carta de são Paulo a Timóteo 1,1-8 – 1Paulo, apóstolo de Jesus Cristo pelo desígnio de Deus referente à promessa de vida que temos em Cristo Jesus, 2a Timóteo, meu querido filho: graça, misericórdia e paz da parte de Deus Pai e de Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor! 3Dou graças a Deus – a quem sirvo com a consciência pura, como aprendi dos meus antepassados – quando me lembro de ti, dia e noite, nas minhas orações. 4Lembrando-me das tuas lágrimas, sinto grande desejo de rever-te e assim ficar cheio de alegria. 5Recordo-me da fé sincera que tens, aquela mesma fé que antes tiveram tua avó Loide e tua mãe, Eunice. Sem dúvida, assim é também a tua. 6Por esse motivo, exorto-te a reavivar a chama do dom de Deus que recebeste pela imposição das minhas mãos. 7Pois Deus não nos deu um espírito de timidez, mas de fortaleza, de amor e sobriedade. 8Não te envergonhes do testemunho de nosso Senhor nem de mim, seu prisioneiro, mas sofre comigo pelo evangelho, fortificado pelo poder de Deus. – Palavra do Senhor.

1st. Reading 

Apostle of Jesus Christ by the design of God concerning the promise of life that we have in Christ Jesus, 2nd Timothy, my dear son: grace, mercy and peace of the part of God the Father and of Christ Jesus our Lord! I thank God - whom I serve with pure conscience, as I learned from my ancestors - when I remember you, day and night, in my prayers. 4Letting me from your tears, I feel a great desire to see you and to be filled with joy. I remember your sincere faith, that same faith that your grandmother Loide and your mother, Eunice, had before. No doubt, so is yours. 6 For this reason I exhort you to revive the flame of the gift of God which you have received by the laying on of my hands. 7For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but of strength, love, and sobriety. 8 Do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me, his prisoner, but suffer with me for the gospel, fortified by the power of God. - Word of the Lord.

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Lucas 10,1-9 – Naquele tempo, 1o Senhor escolheu outros setenta e dois discípulos e os enviou dois a dois, na sua frente, a toda cidade e lugar aonde ele próprio devia ir. 2E dizia-lhes: “A messe é grande, mas os trabalhadores são poucos. Por isso, pedi ao dono da messe que mande trabalhadores para a colheita. 3Eis que vos envio como cordeiros para o meio de lobos. 4Não leveis bolsa, nem sacola, nem sandálias e não cumprimenteis ninguém pelo caminho! 5Em qualquer casa em que entrardes, dizei primeiro: ‘A paz esteja nesta casa!’ 6Se ali morar um amigo da paz, a vossa paz repousará sobre ele; se não, ela voltará para vós. 7Permanecei naquela mesma casa, comei e bebei do que tiverem, porque o trabalhador merece o seu salário. Não passeis de casa em casa. 8Quando entrardes numa cidade e fordes bem recebidos, comei do que vos servirem, 9curai os doentes que nela houver e dizei ao povo: ‘O reino de Deus está próximo de vós’”. – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel 

Proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke 10: 1-9 At that time the Lord chose other seventy-two disciples and sent them two by two in front of him to every city and place where he himself was to go. 2 And he said to them, "The harvest is great, but the laborers are few. So I asked the owner of the harvest to send workers to the harvest. 3I am sending you out as lambs into the midst of wolves. 4Take no purse, no bag, no sandals, and do not greet anyone on the way! 5 In whatever house you enter, say first, 'Peace be in this house!' If a friend of peace dwells there, your peace will rest upon him; if not, it will come back to you. 7 Stay in the same house, eat and drink what you have, for the worker deserves his wages. You do not go from house to house. 8When you enter a city and are well received, eat what you serve, 9know the sick in it, and say to the people, 'The kingdom of God is near you.' Refletindo o Evangelho 

Timóteo e Tito são dois filhos espirituais e amigos diletos do apóstolo Paulo. Em algumas viagens missionárias, Timóteo foi companheiro de Paulo, com quem dividiu alegrias e sofrimentos. Era o portador de cartas e instruções que o apóstolo dirigia às recém-fundadas comunidades cristãs. Foi bispo de Éfeso. Mesmo tendo de ocupar-se com outras missões, Timóteo permaneceu sempre fiel a Paulo, principalmente quando este estava na prisão. No elenco dos livros bíblicos, constam duas “cartas pastorais” de Paulo a Timóteo. Outro colaborador de Paulo foi Tito. Exerceu a função de mediador para levar a harmonia e a paz a algumas comunidades em conflito. Foi bispo de Creta. Também a ele Paulo escreveu uma “carta pastoral”. É possível que Tito tenha evangelizado também a Dalmácia, onde é venerado de modo especial.

Reflecting the Gospel 

Timothy and Titus are two spiritual sons and beloved friends of the apostle Paul. On some missionary journeys, Timothy was a companion of Paul, with whom he shared his joys and sufferings. He was the bearer of letters and instructions the apostle addressed to the newly founded Christian communities. He was bishop of Ephesus. Even though he had to deal with other missions, Timothy remained faithful to Paul, especially when he was in prison. In the list of biblical books, there are two "pastoral letters" from Paul to Timothy. Another collaborator of Paul was Tito. He acted as mediator to bring harmony and peace to some communities in conflict. He was bishop of Crete. Paul also wrote a "pastoral letter" to him. It is possible that Titus also evangelized Dalmatia, where he is especially venerated.
