Um grande profeta surgiu entre nós / e Deus visitou o seu povo, aleluia (Lc 7,16). – Proclamação do Evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus 15,21-28 – Naquele tempo, 21Jesus retirou-se para a região de Tiro e Sidônia. 22Eis que uma mulher cananeia, vindo daquela região, pôs-se a gritar: “Senhor, filho de Davi, tem piedade de mim: minha filha está cruelmente atormentada por um demônio!” 23Mas Jesus não lhe respondeu palavra alguma. Então, seus discípulos aproximaram-se e lhe pediram: “Manda embora essa mulher, pois ela vem gritando atrás de nós”. 24Jesus respondeu: “Eu fui enviado somente às ovelhas perdidas da casa de Israel”. 25Mas a mulher, aproximando-se, prostrou-se diante de Jesus e começou a implorar: “Senhor, socorre-me!” 26Jesus lhe disse: “Não fica bem tirar o pão dos filhos para jogá-lo aos cachorrinhos”. 2ß7A mulher insistiu: “É verdade, Senhor; mas os cachorrinhos também comem as migalhas que caem da mesa de seus donos!” 28Diante disso, Jesus lhe disse: “Mulher, grande é a tua fé! Seja feito como tu queres!” E desde aquele momento sua filha ficou curada. – Palavra da salvação.

A great prophet appeared among us / and God visited his people, hallelujah (Lk 7,16). - Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 15,21-28 - At that time, 21 Jesus retired to the region of Tire and Sidon. 22Behold a Canaanite woman, coming from that region, began to cry out, "Lord, son of David, have pity on me: my daughter is cruelly tormented by a demon!" 23But Jesus did not answer a word. Then, his disciples came and asked him: "Send this woman away, because she has been shouting after us". 24Jesus replied, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." 25But the woman, approaching, prostrated herself before Jesus and began to plead: "Lord, help me!" 26Jesus said to him, "It is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the puppies." 2ß7 The woman insisted: “It is true, Lord; but the puppies also eat the crumbs that fall from their owners' table! ” 28He said to her, “Woman, great is your faith! Be done as you want! ” And from that moment on, her daughter was healed. - Word of salvation.
Reflection
Já imaginou a mulher cananeia com sua filha que “está terrivelmente endemoninhada”. A princípio, Jesus não diz sequer uma palavra, atitude que poderia deixar com raiva a mulher aflita. Mas ela não desiste. Para se verem livres dela, os discípulos pedem que Jesus lhe dê atenção. Jesus fala com ela, salientando que Israel tem preferência no plano da salvação, ensinamento para os discípulos que mais tarde irão anunciar o evangelho pelo mundo afora. Ela sustenta o debate e mostra que pode haver fé autêntica também fora do povo de Israel e aí muitos estão esperando ao menos uma migalha do Reino de Deus. Saída magistral. Fé admirável.
Reflection
Can you imagine the Canaanite woman with her daughter who "is terribly demonized". At first, Jesus does not say a word, an attitude that could make the woman in distress angry. But she doesn't give up. In order to get rid of her, the disciples ask Jesus to pay attention to her. Jesus speaks to her, pointing out that Israel has a preference for salvation, a teaching for the disciples who later will announce the gospel around the world. It sustains the debate and shows that there can also be authentic faith outside the people of Israel and there many are expecting at least a crumb from the Kingdom of God. Masterful exit. Admirable faith.
