O Filho do homem é Senhor também do sábado.
The Son of man is Lord of the Sabbath, too.

Os discípulos de Jesus estão simplesmente colhendo algumas espigas para matar a fome, em dia de sábado. Isso era permitido (cf. Dt 23,25). Proibido era fazer colheita (passar a foice) na plantação alheia (cf. Dt 23,26). Os fariseus, no entanto, usando de má intenção e tentando confundir o Mestre, acusam os discípulos dele de violação da lei sabática. Rápido no raciocínio, Jesus rebate a crítica dos fariseus mostrando que o grande líder deles, Davi, alimentou a si e seus companheiros com o pão sagrado, que era reservado aos sacerdotes. Isto é, Davi se permitiu agir acima da lei para sanar uma necessidade legítima dele e dos companheiros. Jesus deixa claro que a lei existe para beneficiar o ser humano. E revela também que ele mesmo é maior do que Davi, que eles tanto prezavam.

Jesus' disciples are simply harvesting some ears to kill hunger on Saturday. This was allowed (cf. Dt 23,25). It was forbidden to harvest (pass the sickle) in the plantation of the other people (cf. Dt 23,26). The Pharisees, however, using malintendment and trying to confuse the Master, accuse his disciples of violation of sabbatical law. Quick in reasoning, Jesus refutes the criticism of the Pharisees by showing that their great leader, David, fed himself and his companions with the sacred bread, which was reserved for priests. That is, David allowed himself to act above the law to remedy a legitimate need of him and his companions. Jesus makes it clear that the law exists to benefit the human being. It also reveals that he himself is bigger than David, who they so much cherished.

Leitura do primeiro livro de Samuel 16,1-13 – Naqueles dias, 1o Senhor disse a Samuel: “Até quando ficarás chorando por causa de Saul se eu mesmo o rejeitei para que não reine mais sobre Israel? Enche o chifre de óleo e vem, para que eu te envie à casa de Jessé de Belém, pois escolhi um rei para mim entre os seus filhos”. 2Samuel ponderou: “Como posso ir? Se Saul o souber, vai-me matar”. O Senhor respondeu: “Tomarás contigo uma novilha da manada e dirás: ‘Vim para oferecer um sacrifício ao Senhor’. 3Convidarás Jessé para o sacrifício. Eu te mostrarei o que deves fazer, e tu ungirás a quem eu te designar”. 4Samuel fez o que o Senhor lhe disse e foi a Belém. Os anciãos da cidade vieram-lhe ao encontro e perguntaram: “É de paz a tua vinda?” 5“Sim, é de paz”, respondeu Samuel. “Vim para fazer um sacrifício ao Senhor. Purificai-vos e vinde comigo, para que eu ofereça a vítima”. Ele purificou então Jessé e seus filhos e convidou-os para o sacrifício. 6Assim que chegaram, Samuel viu a Eliab e disse consigo: “Certamente é este o ungido do Senhor!” 7Mas o Senhor disse-lhe: “Não olhes para a sua aparência nem para a sua grande estatura, porque eu o rejeitei. Não julgo segundo os critérios do homem: o homem vê as aparências, mas o Senhor olha o coração”. 8Então Jessé chamou Abinadab e apresentou-o a Samuel, que disse: “Também não é este que o Senhor escolheu”. 9Jessé trouxe-lhe depois Sama, e Samuel disse: “A este tampouco o Senhor escolheu”. 10Jessé fez vir seus sete filhos à presença de Samuel, mas Samuel disse: “O Senhor não escolheu a nenhum deles”. 11E acrescentou: “Estão aqui todos os teus filhos?” Jessé respondeu: “Resta ainda o mais novo, que está apascentando as ovelhas”. E Samuel ordenou a Jessé: “Manda buscá-lo, pois não nos sentaremos à mesa enquanto ele não chegar”. 12Jessé mandou buscá-lo. Era ruivo, de belos olhos e de formosa aparência. E o Senhor disse: “Levanta-te, unge-o: é este!” 13Samuel tomou o chifre com óleo e ungiu Davi na presença de seus irmãos. E a partir daquele dia o espírito do Senhor se apoderou de Davi. Fill the oil horn and come, so I may send you to the house of Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have chosen a king for me among your children." 2Samuel pondered, "How can I go? If Saul knows it, he's going to kill me." The Lord replied, "You will take with you a heifer of the herd and say, 'I have come to offer a sacrifice to the Lord.' 3You will invite Jesse to sacrifice. I'll show you what you should do, and you'll anoint whoever I assign you." 4Samuel did what the Lord said to him and went to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him and asked, "Is your coming of peace? 5"Yes, it is of peace, " answered Samuel. "I came to make a sacrifice to the Lord. Clean seify and come with me, so That I may offer the victim."
