Jesus Cristo se tornou obediente, / obediente até a morte numa cruz; / pelo que o Senhor Deus o exaltou / e deu-lhe um nome muito acima de outro nome (Fl 2,8s). – N (Narrador): Paixão de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus 27,11-54 – Naquele tempo, 11Jesus foi posto diante de Pôncio Pilatos, e este o interrogou:
L (Leitor): Tu és o rei dos judeus?
N: Jesus declarou:
P (Presidente): É como dizes.
N: 12E nada respondeu, quando foi acusado pelos sumos sacerdotes e anciãos. 13Então Pilatos perguntou:
L: Não estás ouvindo de quanta coisa eles te acusam?
N: 14Mas Jesus não respondeu uma só palavra, e o governador ficou muito impressionado. 15Na festa da Páscoa, o governador costumava soltar o prisioneiro que a multidão quisesse. 16Naquela ocasião, tinham um prisioneiro famoso, chamado Barrabás. 17Então Pilatos perguntou à multidão reunida:
L: Quem vós quereis que eu solte: Barrabás ou Jesus, a quem chamam de Cristo?
N: 18Pilatos bem sabia que eles haviam entregado Jesus por inveja. 19Enquanto Pilatos estava sentado no tribunal, sua mulher mandou dizer a ele:
L: Não te envolvas com esse justo! Porque esta noite, em sonho, sofri muito por causa dele.
N: 20Porém os sumos sacerdotes e os anciãos convenceram as multidões para que pedissem Barrabás e que fizessem Jesus morrer. 21O governador tornou a perguntar:
L: Qual dos dois quereis que eu solte?
N: Eles gritaram:
G (Grupo ou assembleia): Barrabás.
N: 22Pilatos perguntou:
L: Que farei com Jesus, que chamam de Cristo?
N: Todos gritaram:
G: Seja crucificado!
N: 23Pilatos falou:
L: Mas que mal ele fez?
N: Eles, porém, gritaram com mais força:
G: Seja crucificado!
N: 24Pilatos viu que nada conseguia e que poderia haver uma revolta. Então mandou trazer água, lavou as mãos diante da multidão e disse:
L: Eu não sou responsável pelo sangue deste homem. Este é um problema vosso!
N: 25O povo todo respondeu:
G: Que o sangue dele caia sobre nós e sobre os nossos filhos.
N: 26Então Pilatos soltou Barrabás, mandou flagelar Jesus e entregou-o para ser crucificado. 27Em seguida, os soldados de Pilatos levaram Jesus ao palácio do governador e reuniram toda a tropa em volta dele. 28Tiraram sua roupa e o vestiram com um manto vermelho; 29depois teceram uma coroa de espinhos, puseram a coroa em sua cabeça e uma vara em sua mão direita. Então se ajoelharam diante de Jesus e zombaram, dizendo:
G: Salve, rei dos judeus!
N: 30Cuspiram nele e, pegando uma vara, bateram na sua cabeça. 31Depois de zombar dele, tiraram-lhe o manto vermelho e, de novo, o vestiram com suas próprias roupas. Daí o levaram para crucificar. 32Quando saíam, encontraram um homem chamado Simão, da cidade de Cirene, e o obrigaram a carregar a cruz de Jesus. 33E chegaram a um lugar chamado Gólgota, que quer dizer “lugar da caveira”. 34Ali deram vinho misturado com fel para Jesus beber. Ele provou, mas não quis beber. 35Depois de o crucificarem, fizeram um sorteio, repartindo entre si as suas vestes. 36E ficaram ali sentados, montando guarda. 37Acima da cabeça de Jesus, puseram o motivo da sua condenação: “Este é Jesus, o rei dos judeus”. 38Com ele também crucificaram dois ladrões, um à direita e outro à esquerda de Jesus. 39As pessoas que passavam por ali o insultavam, balançando a cabeça e dizendo:
G: 40Tu que ias destruir o templo e construí-lo de novo em três dias, salva-te a ti mesmo! Se és o Filho de Deus, desce da cruz!
N: 41Do mesmo modo, os sumos sacerdotes, junto com os mestres da lei e os anciãos, também zombavam de Jesus:
G: 42A outros salvou… a si mesmo não pode salvar! É rei de Israel… Desça agora da cruz! e acreditaremos nele. 43Confiou em Deus; que o livre agora, se é que Deus o ama! Já que ele disse: Eu sou o Filho de Deus.
N: 44Do mesmo modo, também os dois ladrões, que foram crucificados com Jesus, o insultavam. 45Desde o meio-dia até as três horas da tarde, houve escuridão sobre toda a terra. 46Pelas três horas da tarde, Jesus deu um forte grito:
P: Eli, eli, lamá sabactâni?
N: Que quer dizer: “Meu Deus, meu Deus, por que me abandonaste?” 47Alguns dos que ali estavam, ouvindo-o, disseram:
G: Ele está chamando Elias!
N: 48E logo um deles, correndo, pegou uma esponja, ensopou-a em vinagre, colocou-a na ponta de uma vara e lhe deu para beber. 49Outros, porém, disseram:
G: Deixa, vamos ver se Elias vem salvá-lo!
N: 50Então Jesus deu outra vez um forte grito e entregou o espírito.
Todos se ajoelham e faz-se uma pausa.
N: 51E eis que a cortina do santuário rasgou-se de alto a baixo, em duas partes, a terra tremeu e as pedras se partiram. 52Os túmulos se abriram e muitos corpos dos santos falecidos ressuscitaram! 53Saindo dos túmulos, depois da ressurreição de Jesus, apareceram na cidade santa e foram vistos por muitas pessoas. 54O oficial e os soldados que estavam com ele guardando Jesus, ao notarem o terremoto e tudo que havia acontecido, ficaram com muito medo e disseram:
G: Ele era mesmo Filho de Deus!
N: Palavra da salvação.

G: Ele era mesmo Filho de Deus!
N: Palavra da salvação.

Jesus Christ became obedient, / obedient to death on a cross; / for which the Lord God exalted him / and gave him a name far above another name (Fl 2,8s). - N (Narrator): Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew 27,11-54 - At that time, 11Jesus was placed before Pontius Pilate, and he asked him:
L (Reader): Are you the king of the Jews?
N: Jesus declared:

N: 12And he answered nothing when he was accused by the high priests and elders. Then Pilate asked,
L: Aren't you hearing how much they accuse you of?
N: 14But Jesus didn't answer a word, and the governor was very impressed. 15 At the Easter feast, the governor used to release the prisoner as the crowd wanted. At that time, they had a famous prisoner named Barabbas. 17Then Pilate asked the assembled crowd,
L: Who do you want me to release: Barabbas or Jesus, who do you call Christ?
N: 18Pilates well knew that they had handed Jesus over out of envy. 19 While Pilate was sitting in the courtroom, his wife sent to him and said:
L: Don't get involved with that fair! Because tonight, in a dream, I suffered a lot because of him.
N: 20But the high priests and the elders convinced the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to make Jesus die. The governor asked again:
L: Which of the two do you want me to release?
N: They shouted:
G (Group or assembly): Barabbas.
N: 22Pilates asked:
L: What will I do with Jesus, who they call Christ?
N: Everyone shouted:
G: Be crucified!
N: 23Pilates said:
L: But what harm did he do?
N: They, however, shouted harder:
G: Be crucified!
N: 24Pilatos saw that he could achieve nothing and that there could be a revolt. Then he sent for water, washed his hands in front of the crowd and said:
L: I am not responsible for this man's blood. This is your problem!
N: 25The whole people answered:
G: May his blood fall on us and our children.
N: 26Then Pilate released Barabbas, scourged Jesus and handed him over to be crucified. 27 Then Pilate's soldiers took Jesus to the governor's palace and gathered all the troops around him. 28 They took off his clothes and dressed him in a red cloak; 29then they wove a crown of thorns, put the crown on their head, and a stick in their right hand. Then they knelt before Jesus and scoffed, saying,
G: Hail, king of the Jews!
N: 30 They spit on him and, taking a stick, hit him on the head. 31 After mocking him, they took off his red cloak and again dressed him in his own clothes. Then they took him to crucify. 32When they left, they met a man named Simon, from the city of Cyrene, and forced him to carry the cross of Jesus. 33E they came to a place called Golgotha, which means “place of the skull”. 34 There they gave wine mixed with gall for Jesus to drink. He tasted it, but he didn't want to drink. 35After they had crucified him, they drew lots, dividing their clothes among themselves. 36And they sat there, standing guard. 37Over the head of Jesus, they put the reason for his condemnation: "This is Jesus, the king of the Jews". 38He also crucified two thieves, one on the right and one on Jesus' left. 39The people passing by insulted him, shaking their heads and saying:
G: 40You were going to destroy the temple and build it again in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!
N: 41 Likewise, the high priests, along with the teachers of the law and the elders, also mocked Jesus:
G: 42The others saved ... himself cannot save! He is king of Israel ... Now descend from the cross! and we will believe him. 43Trusted God; let him free now, if God loves him! Since he said: I am the Son of God.
N: 44 Likewise, the two thieves, who were crucified with Jesus, also insulted him. 45 From noon until three o'clock in the afternoon, there was darkness over the whole land. 46At three o'clock in the afternoon, Jesus gave a loud cry:
Q: Eli, eli, lamá sabactâni?
N: What do you mean, "My God, my God, why did you abandon me?" 47Some of those who were listening to him said,
G: He's calling for Elias!
N: 48And then one of them, running, took a sponge, soaked it in vinegar, put it on the end of a stick and gave it to him to drink. 49 Others said,
G: Leave it, let's see if Elias comes to save him!
N: 50Then Jesus gave a loud cry again and gave up the spirit.
Everyone kneels and there is a pause.
N: 51And behold, the curtain of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom, the earth shook and the stones broke. 52The tombs were opened and many bodies of the deceased saints were resurrected! 53 Leaving the tombs, after Jesus' resurrection, they appeared in the holy city and were seen by many people. 54The officer and the soldiers who were with him guarding Jesus, when they noticed the earthquake and everything that had happened, were very afraid and said:
G: He really was the Son of God!
N: Word of salvation.
Reflection
Jesus approaches Jerusalem for the last time, arriving as a meek and humble king, riding a donkey. The crowd awaited him with great joy and welcome, laying out robes and swinging branches of trees, and sang a hymn of praise: “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord”.

Jesus se aproxima de Jerusalém pela última vez, chegando como rei manso e humilde, montado numa jumenta. A multidão o esperava com grande alegria e acolhimento, estendendo mantos e balançando ramos de árvores, e cantava um hino de louvor: “Hosana ao Filho de Davi! Bendito o que vem em nome do Senhor”.
