Evangelho - João 13,16-20

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo João – Depois de lavar os pés dos discípulos, Jesus lhes disse: ¹⁶“Em verdade, em verdade vos digo, o servo não está acima do seu senhor e o mensageiro não é maior que aquele que o enviou. ¹⁷Se sabeis isso e o puserdes em prática, sereis felizes. ¹⁸Eu não falo de vós todos. Eu conheço aqueles que escolhi, mas é preciso que se realize o que está na Escritura: ‘Aquele que come o meu pão levantou contra mim o calcanhar’. ¹⁹Desde agora vos digo isso, antes de acontecer, a fim de que, quando acontecer, creiais que eu sou. ²⁰Em verdade, em verdade vos digo, quem recebe aquele que eu enviar me recebe a mim; e quem me recebe, recebe aquele que me enviou”. – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel - John 13,16-20

Proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ According to John - After washing the disciples' feet, Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the servant is not above his lord, and the messenger is not greater than the one who sent him . If you know this and put it into practice, you will be happy. 18I do not speak of you all. I know those whom I have chosen, but it is necessary that what is in the Scripture be accomplished: 'He that eateth my bread hath lifted up the heel against me.' From this I tell you this, before it comes to pass, that when it does happen, you may believe that I am. 20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whom I send receiveth me. and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. " - Word of salvation.

Refletindo o Evangelho

Jesus acaba de lavar os pés dos seus apóstolos. Admirável atitude de amor e serviço. Entretanto, não basta compreender a lição do lava-pés; é necessário colocá-la em prática: “Serão felizes se o praticarem”. As pessoas podem ser felizes não dominando, mas amando; não sendo superioras às outras, mas iguais. Nem todos seguirão o projeto de Jesus. Sem declarar o nome, Jesus afirma que entre os apóstolos um será o traidor. Mas Jesus é fiel ao Pai: levará a sua missão até o fim. Ele é o Messias, o enviado pelo Pai, o salvador, a luz  do mundo, o Filho de Deus, a presença de Deus neste mundo. Jesus vai ser afastado pela morte-glorificação, mas deixará aos apóstolos a incumbência de levar adiante a sua mesma missão, a que recebeu do Pai: dar vida abundante para todos.

Reflecting the Gospel

"Jesus has just washed the feet of his apostles. Brave attitude of love and service. However, it is not enough to understand the lesson of footwashing; it is necessary to put it into practice: "They will be happy if they practice it". People can be happy not by dominating but loving; not superior to others, but equal. Not all will follow the plan of Jesus. Without declaring the name, Jesus affirms that among the apostles one will be the traitor. But Jesus is faithful to the Father: he will carry out his mission to the end. He is the Messiah, the one sent by the Father, the savior, the light of the world, the Son of God, the presence of God in this world. Jesus will be led away by death-glorification, but will leave the apostles to carry out the same mission, which he received from the Father: to give abundant life to all."

Ó Senhor, eu cantarei eternamente o vosso amor, / de geração em geração eu cantarei vossa verdade! / Porque dissestes: “O amor é garantido para sempre!” / E a vossa lealdade é tão firme como os céus. O Lord, I will sing your love forever, / from generation to generation I will sing your truth! / Because you said: "Love is guaranteed forever!" / And your loyalty is as firm as the heavens. I found and chose David my servant, and anointed him to be king, with my consecrated oil. My omnipotent hand will always be with him, and my mighty arm will be his strength. He will not be surprised by the strength of the enemy, nor can the son of evil do him harm. / Before him will I crush his enemies and his aggressors, / I will smite and destroy all those who hate him. My truth and my love will always be with him, / his strength and his power by my name will grow. / He will then invoke me: 'O Lord, you are my Father, / you are my God, you are my rock where I find salvation!
