Elias já veio!
Elijah has already come!

1a. Leitura - Eclesiástico 48,1-4.9-11

Leitura do livro do Eclesiástico – Naqueles dias, ¹ o profeta Elias surgiu como um fogo, e sua palavra queimava como uma tocha. ² Fez vir a fome sobre eles e, no seu zelo, reduziu-os a pouca gente. ³ Pela palavra do Senhor fechou o céu e de lá fez cair fogo por três vezes. ⁴ Ó Elias, como te tornaste glorioso por teus prodígios! Quem poderia gloriar-se de ser semelhante a ti? ⁹ Tu foste arrebatado num turbilhão de fogo, num carro de cavalos também de fogo; ¹⁰ tu, nas ameaças para os tempos futuros, foste designado para acalmar a ira do Senhor antes do furor, para reconduzir o coração do pai ao filho e restabelecer as tribos de Jacó. ¹¹ Felizes os que te viram e os que adormeceram na tua amizade! – Palavra do Senhor.

1st Reading - Sirach 48,1-4.9-11

Reading the book of Sirach - 1 in those days, the Prophet Elijah appeared as a fire, and your Word burned like a torch. 2 Did come upon them, and hunger, in your zeal, reduced them to a handful of people. 3 the word of the Lord closed the sky and brought down fire on three occasions. 4 o Elias, as you become glorious for your wonders! Who would glory to be similar to you? 9 you were caught up in a whirlwind of fire, a horse car also of fire; 10 you, on threats to the future times, were designed to calm the anger of the Lord before the furor, to bring the heart of the father to the son and to restore the tribes of Jacob. 11 happy that you and those who have fallen asleep in your friendship! -The word of the Lord.

Evangelho - Mateus 17,10-13

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus – Ao descerem do monte, ¹⁰ os discípulos perguntaram a Jesus: “Por que os mestres da lei dizem que Elias deve vir primeiro?” ¹¹ Jesus respondeu: “Elias vem e colocará tudo em ordem. ¹² Ora, eu vos digo, Elias já veio, mas eles não o reconheceram. Ao contrário, fizeram com ele tudo o que quiseram. Assim também o Filho do homem será maltratado por eles”. ¹³ Então os discípulos compreenderam que Jesus lhes falava de João Batista. – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel - Matthew 17,10-13

Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew-To descend the Hill, 10 the disciples asked Jesus: "why the masters of the law say that Elijah must come first?" 11 Jesus answered: "Elijah comes and will put everything in order. 12 Now, I tell you, Elijah has already come, but they don't recognize. On the contrary, did everything you wanted. So also the son of man will be mistreated by them. " 13 Then the disciples understood that Jesus spoke to them of John the Baptist. -The word of salvation.

Refletindo o Evangelho  

O profeta Elias foi um homem repleto do Espírito de Deus e cheio de coragem e valentia. Enfrentou inimigos do seu povo e de sua fé no Deus único de Israel. Nos dias de Jesus, outro profeta se apresenta com as características de Elias. É João Batista, dotado de fortaleza, coragem e zelo pela causa do Senhor. A João Batista, precursor do Messias, as autoridades puseram na prisão e em seguida o mataram, cortando-lhe a cabeça. A Jesus, o Messias esperado, tratarão de modo semelhante: vão condená-lo e eliminá-lo com a morte na cruz. Os discípulos de Cristo sabem que correm o risco de terem a mesma sorte que seu Mestre: “Se perseguiram a mim, vão perseguir a vocês também” (Jo 15,20).

Reflecting the Gospel 

The Prophet Elijah was a man filled with the spirit of God and full of courage and bravery. Faced enemies of your people and your faith in the God only of Israel. In the days of Jesus, another Prophet has the features of Elias. Is John the Baptist, endowed with strength, courage and zeal for the Lord. John the Baptist, precursor of the Messiah, the authorities put in prison and then killed him by cutting off his head. Voltai-vos para nós, Deus do universo! † Olhai dos altos céus e observai. Visitai a vossa vinha e protegei-a! Foi a vossa mão direita que a plantou; protegei-a, e ao rebento que firmastes! Pousai a mão por sobre o vosso protegido, o filho do homem que escolhestes para vós! E nunca mais vos deixaremos, Senhor Deus! Dai-nos vida, e louvaremos vosso nome! Salmo 79/80.

Praying 

O Shepherd of Israel, listen to me. You who on the cherubs you assentais. Awake your power, o our God, and come soon to bring us salvation. Turn to us, God of the universe! † Look of the high heavens and observe. Visit your vine and protect it! Was your right hand planted; protect her, and the offspring that you signed! Lay down your hand over your protected, the son of man that you have chosen for you! And never leave you Lord God! Give us life, and praise thy name! Psalm 79/80.
