I will not tell you by what authority I do these things.

Adapted by Flávio.

Religious and civil leaders ask Jesus about the source of their authority. Jesus answers by asking too. It was one of the styles of debate among the rabbis. In fact, Jesus' question forces them to take a stand. To stand for John is to stand for Jesus. To stand against John is to stand against the people, who hold the Baptist in high esteem and regard. With no way out, they are mute.

1a. Leitura
– Palavra do Senhor.

1st. Reading
Reading the Book of Numbers 24,2-7.15-17 - In those days, 2Ballam looked up and saw Israel encamped by tribes. The spirit of God came upon him, and Balaam pronounced his poem: The speaker of him that heareth the words of God, that seeth what the mighty telleth him that falleth, and his eyes are opened. 5How beautiful are your tents, O Jacob, and your dwellings, O Israel! 6They stretch out like valleys, like gardens by a river, like aloes which the Lord has planted, like cedars by the waters. 7Water overflows from its pitchers, and its seed is richly watered. Your king is more powerful than Agag, your kingdom is rising. ” 15And Balaam went on to pronounce his poem: “Oracle of Balaam son of Beor, oracle of the man who has eyes open, 16oracle of him who hears the words of God and knows the thoughts of the Most High, who sees what the Almighty makes him see. , that falls, and your eyes open. 17I see him, but not now; and I contemplate it, but not closely. A star comes out of Jacob, and a scepter rises from Israel. - Word of the Lord.

Salmo - 25/25
Fazei-me conhecer a vossa estrada, ó Senhor!
1. Mostrai-me, ó Senhor, vossos caminhos / e fazei-me conhecer a vossa estrada! / Vossa verdade me oriente e me conduza, / porque sois o Deus da minha salvação.

Psalm - 25/26
Make me know your road, O Lord!
1. Show me your ways, O Lord, and let me know your road! / Your truth guide me and lead me, / because you are the God of my salvation.
2. Remember, O Lord my God, your tenderness and your compassion, which are eternal! / Remember me, for you are mercy / and kindness without limit, O Lord!
3. The Lord is godliness and righteousness / and brings sinners back to the good way. / He directs the humble in righteousness, / and the poor he teaches his way.

Evangelho
Aleluia, aleluia, aleluia.

Gospel
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. Show us, O Lord, your goodness / and your salvation grant us! (Ps 84,8) - Proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 21,23-27 - At that time, 23Jesus returned to the temple. As he taught, the high priests and elders of the people came to him and asked, “By what authority do you do these things? Who gave you such authority? ”24Jesus answered them,“ I will also ask you a question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I do these things. Where did John's baptism come from? From heaven or from men? ”They reflected among themselves:“ If we say 'from heaven', he will say to us, 'Why did you not believe in him?' 26 If we say 'from men,' we are afraid of the people, for all have John the Baptist in prophet's account ”. 27They answered Jesus, "We do not know." To which Jesus also answered, "I will not tell you by what authority I do these things." - Word of salvation.

🇧🇷Reflexão 12/12/19 🇺🇸Reflection

Bem-aventurada aquela que acreditou.
Blessed is the one who believed.

The cult of the Virgin of Guadalupe spread rapidly and favored the spread of the Christian faith among the natives. Built at the foot of the Tepeyac hill, place of apparitions, the present shrine was completed in 1709 and elevated to the category of basilica by Pope Pius X in 1904. – Palavra do Senhor.

🇧🇷Reflexão 11/12/19 🇺🇸Reflection

Sou manso e humilde de coração, e vós encontrareis descanso.
I am gentle and humble of heart, and you will find rest.

Adapted by Flávio.

Jesus observes the countenance and gestures of his countrymen and knows how much they are suffering. Now, many are so bent under the weight of social obligations and religious demands that they lose the joy of living and form a false conception of God. Jesus lightens their burden, proposes a way that is actually more important than the laws.

1a. Leitura
Leitura do livro do profeta Isaías 40,25-31 – 25“Com quem haveis de me comparar, e a quem seria eu igual?”, fala o Santo. – Palavra do Senhor.

1st. Reading
Reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah 40,25-31 - 25 “To whom will you compare me, and to whom would I be equal?” Says the Holy One. 26 Lift your eyes up and see: who created all this? He who expresses in numbers the army of the stars and each calls by name: such is the greatness and strength and power of God, that none of them lack the call. 27Then why do you say, Jacob, and why do you speak, Israel, "My life has been hidden from the sight of the Lord, and my judgment is beyond my God?" 28Who do you ignore or haven't you heard? The Lord is the everlasting God who created the ends of the earth; he does not fail or tire, unfathomable is his wisdom; This gives courage to the underprivileged and increases the vigor of the weak. 30The children weary and stop, the young men stumble and fall, 31but those who wait for the Lord renew their strength, they create wings like eagles, they run tirelessly, they walk without stopping. - Word of the Lord.

Salmo - 102/103
Bendize, ó minha alma, ao Senhor.

Psalm - 102/103
Bless, O my soul, the Lord.
1. Bless, O my soul, the Lord, and all my being, his holy name! / Bless, O my soul, the Lord, / do not forget any of his favors!
2. For he forgives you all guilt / and heals all your sickness; / from the grave he saves your life / and surrounds you with affection and compassion.
3. The Lord is forgiving, favorable, / patient, kind, and compassionate. / It does not treat us as our faults demand / nor does it punish us in proportion to our faults.

Evangelho
Aleluia, aleluia, aleluia.

Gospel
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. Behold, the Lord will come / to save his people; / happy are all those / who are ready to meet you. - Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 11,28-30 - At that time Jesus took the word and said: 28 “Come to me, all of you who are tired and weary under the weight of your burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. - Word of salvation.
