Que vossos rins estejam cingidos e as lâmpadas acesas.

May your kidneys be girdled and the lamps lit.

Estar com os rins cingidos e lâmpadas acesas indicam prontidão e vigilância. Mergulhados no corre-corre do dia a dia, as pessoas deixam escapar a ocasião de viver os valores do Reino. Este é o perigo que ronda todos os que vivem cercados de constantes propostas e seduções da sociedade. O cristão vive no mundo sem ser do mundo, como afirmava Jesus a respeito de seus discípulos (Jo 17,11.16). A comunidade deve estar em contínua vigilância, fiel à palavra e à ação de Jesus. Que o mundo não nos distraia de nossos compromissos cristãos. Assim, quando o Senhor nos visitar com sua graça ou na hora de nossa morte, nos encontre de prontidão a serviço da justiça e da fraternidade.

Being with the kindled kidneys and lighted bulbs indicate readiness and vigilance. Plunged into the race of day to day, people let go of the opportunity to live the values of the kingdom. This is the danger that surrounds all who live surrounded by constant proposals and seductions of society. The Christian lives in the world without being of the world, as Jesus affirmed about his disciples (Jn 17, 11.16). The community must be in continuous vigilance, faithful to the word and the action of Jesus. That the world does not distract us from our Christian commitments. Thus, when the Lord visits us with his grace or at the hour of our death, he finds us in readiness at the service of justice and fraternity.

Leitura da carta de são Paulo aos Romanos 5,12.15.17-21 – Irmãos, 12o pecado entrou no mundo por um só homem. Através do pecado, entrou a morte. E a morte passou para todos os homens, porque todos pecaram. 15A transgressão de um só levou a multidão humana à morte, mas foi de modo bem mais superior que a graça de Deus, ou seja, o dom gratuito concedido através de um só homem, Jesus Cristo, se derramou em abundância sobre todos. 17Por um só homem, pela falta de um só homem, a morte começou a reinar. Muito mais reinarão na vida, pela mediação de um só, Jesus Cristo, os que recebem o dom gratuito e superabundante da justiça. 18Como a falta de um só acarretou condenação para todos os homens, assim o ato de justiça de um só trouxe, para todos os homens, a justificação que dá a vida. 19Com efeito, como, pela desobediência de um só homem, a humanidade toda foi estabelecida numa situação de pecado, assim também, pela obediência de um só, toda a humanidade passará para uma situação de justiça. 20Porém, onde se multiplicou o pecado, aí superabundou a graça. 21Enfim, como o pecado tem reinado pela morte, que a graça reine pela justiça, para a vida eterna, por Jesus Cristo, Senhor nosso. – Palavra do Senhor.

Reading from St Paul's letter to Romans 5,12.15.17-21 – Brothers, 12th sin entered the world by one man. Through sin, Death entered. And death passed on to all men, because they all sinned. 15A transgression of one only led the human multitude to death, but it was so much more superior than the grace of God, that is, the free gift granted through one man, Jesus Christ, poured out abundantly upon all. 17By one man, by the lack of one man, death began to reign. Much more will reign in life, through the mediation of one, Jesus Christ, those who receive the free and superabundant gift of righteousness. 18 As The lack of one only brought condemnation to all men, so the act of righteousness of one only led, to all men, the justification that gives life. 19As, by the disobedience of one man, all mankind was established in a situation of sin, so also, by the obedience of one, all mankind will pass into a situation of righteousness. 20However, where sin multiplied, there overabounded grace. 21Finally, as sin is ruled by death, that Grace reign for righteousness, for eternal life, by Jesus Christ, our Lord. – Word of the Lord.ause of our sins and was resurrected for our justification. – Word of the Lord.

Eis que venho fazer, com prazer, / a vossa vontade, Senhor! 
1. Sacrifício e oblação não quisestes, / mas abristes, Senhor, meus ouvidos; / não pedistes ofertas nem vítimas, † holocaustos por nossos pecados, / e então eu vos disse: “Eis que venho!” 
2. Sobre mim está escrito no livro: † “Com prazer faço a vossa vontade, / guardo em meu coração vossa lei!” 
3. Boas-novas de vossa justiça † anunciei numa grande assembleia; / vós sabeis: não fechei os meus lábios!

Em verdade eu vos digo, ele mesmo vai cingir-se, fazê-los sentar-se à mesa e, passando, os servirá. 38E caso ele chegue à meia-noite ou às três da madrugada, felizes serão se assim os encontrar!” – Palavra da salvação.
