Evangelho - Marcos 9,2-10

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Marcos – Naquele tempo, ²Jesus tomou consigo Pedro, Tiago e João e os levou sozinhos a um lugar à parte sobre uma alta montanha. E transfigurou-se diante deles. ³Suas roupas ficaram brilhantes e tão brancas como nenhuma lavadeira sobre a terra poderia alvejar. ⁴Apareceram-lhe Elias e Moisés, e estavam conversando com Jesus. ⁵Então Pedro tomou a palavra e disse a Jesus: “Mestre, é bom ficarmos aqui. Vamos fazer três tendas: uma para ti, outra para Moisés e outra para Elias”. ⁶Pedro não sabia o que dizer, pois estavam todos com muito medo. ⁷Então desceu uma nuvem e os encobriu com sua sombra. E da nuvem saiu uma voz: “Este é o meu Filho amado. Escutai o que ele diz!” ⁸E, de repente, olhando em volta, não viram mais ninguém, a não ser somente Jesus com eles. ⁹Ao descerem da montanha, Jesus ordenou que não contassem a ninguém o que tinham visto, até que o Filho do homem tivesse ressuscitado dos mortos. ¹⁰Eles observaram essa ordem, mas comentavam entre si o que queria dizer “ressuscitar dos mortos”. – Palavra da salvação.

Refletindo o Evangelho

O episódio da transfiguração do Senhor tornou-se objeto de uma festa litúrgica oriental já no século V. Na Igreja ocidental, esta festa surge pela primeira vez no século X e se difunde com rapidez. Só foi introduzida em toda a Igreja pelo Papa Calisto III, em 1456 (6 de agosto). Aos três discípulos, entristecidos com o anúncio de sua paixão-morte, Jesus quer mostrar que sua vida não será um fracasso, mas terá um fim vitorioso, a ressurreição. No alto monte, lugar da manifestação divina, Jesus se transfigura diante dos três mais representativos entre os apóstolos. Dois representantes de todo o Antigo Testamento (Moisés, a Lei; Elias, os profetas) conversam com Jesus: o Antigo Testamento não tem uma mensagem direta para os cristãos; ela deve passar pelo filtro, isto é, pela interpretação de Jesus.

Reflecting the Gospel

The episode of the Lord's transfiguration became the object of an Eastern liturgical feast in the fifth century. In the Western Church, this feast first appeared in the tenth century and spread rapidly. It was introduced into the whole Church by Pope Callisto III in 1456 (August 6). To the three disciples, saddened by the announcement of his death-passion, Jesus wants to show that his life will not be a failure, but will have a victorious end, the resurrection. On the high hill, place of the divine manifestation, Jesus transfigures himself before the three most representative among the apostles. Two representatives of the entire Old Testament (Moses, the Law, Elijah, the prophets) talk to Jesus: the Old Testament does not have a direct message for Christians; it must pass through the filter, that is, through the interpretation of Jesus.
