Blessed are the eyes that see what you see!

1a. Leitura

Leitura do livro do profeta Isaías 11,1-10 – Naquele dia, 1nascerá uma haste do tronco de Jessé e, a partir da raiz, surgirá o rebento de uma flor. 2Sobre ele repousará o Espírito do Senhor: espírito de sabedoria e discernimento, espírito de conselho e fortaleza, espírito de ciência e temor de Deus; 3no temor do Senhor encontra ele seu prazer. Ele não julgará pelas aparências que vê nem decidirá somente por ouvir dizer, 4mas trará justiça para os humildes e uma ordem justa para os homens pacíficos; fustigará a terra com a força da sua palavra e destruirá o mau com o sopro dos lábios. 5Cingirá a cintura com a correia da justiça e as costas com a faixa da fidelidade. 6O lobo e o cordeiro viverão juntos, e o leopardo deitar-se-á ao lado do cabrito; o bezerro e o leão comerão juntos, e até mesmo uma criança poderá tangê-los. 7A vaca e o urso pastarão lado a lado, enquanto suas crias descansam juntas; o leão comerá palha como o boi; 8a criança de peito vai brincar em cima do buraco da cobra venenosa; e o menino desmamado não temerá pôr a mão na toca da serpente. 9Não haverá danos nem mortes por todo o meu santo monte: a terra estará tão repleta do saber do Senhor quanto as águas que cobrem o mar. 10Naquele dia, a raiz de Jessé se erguerá como um sinal entre os povos; hão de buscá-la as nações, e gloriosa será a sua morada. – Palavra do Senhor.

Read from the book of the prophet Isaiah 11,1-10 - In that day, a rod shall come from the stem of Jesse, and from the root shall spring forth the bud of a flower. 2 The spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and discernment, a spirit of counsel and strength, a spirit of knowledge, and the fear of God; In the fear of the Lord he finds his pleasure. He will not judge by the appearances he sees or decide only by hearing, 4 but bring justice to the humble and a just order to peaceful men; he will strike the earth with the strength of his word and destroy the wicked with the breath of his lips. 5 He will belt the waist with the strap of justice and the back with the band of faithfulness. 6The wolf and the lamb shall live together, and the leopard shall lie down by the kid; the calf and the lion will eat together, and even a child may touch them. 7The cow and the bear shall graze side by side, while their young shall rest together; the lion shall eat straw like the ox; 8th Chest child will play upon the pit of the venomous snake; and the weaned child will not be afraid to lay a hand on the snake's den. 9 There shall be no hurt or death throughout all my holy mountain; the earth shall be as full of the knowledge of Jehovah as the waters that cover the sea. 10 In that day the root of Jesse shall stand as a sign among the peoples; the nations shall seek her, and her dwelling shall be glorious. - Word of the Lord.

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Lucas 10,21-24 – 21Naquele momento, Jesus exultou no Espírito Santo e disse: “Eu te louvo, Pai, Senhor do céu e da terra, porque escondeste essas coisas aos sábios e inteligentes e as revelaste aos pequeninos. Sim, Pai, porque assim foi do teu agrado. 22Tudo me foi entregue pelo meu Pai. Ninguém conhece quem é o Filho, a não ser o Pai; e ninguém conhece quem é o Pai, a não ser o Filho e aquele a quem o Filho o quiser revelar”. 23Jesus voltou-se para os discípulos e disse-lhes em particular: “Felizes os olhos que veem o que vós vedes! 24Pois eu vos digo que muitos profetas e reis quiseram ver o que estais vendo e não puderam ver; quiseram ouvir o que estais ouvindo e não puderam ouvir”. – Palavra da salvação.

Refletindo o Evangelho 

Em suas pregações, Jesus fala frequentemente de sua intimidade com o Pai. Ao mesmo tempo, exulta “no Espírito Santo” por ver as multidões que recorrem a ele em busca de alimento espiritual, libertação, vida plena. Não são os estudiosos das Escrituras que vêm pedir a Jesus esclarecimentos sobre passagens bíblicas; não são os Mestres da Lei que o consultam para saber sua opinião sobre as “pesadas cargas” que colocam nos ombros do povo. Seus seguidores são os pobres, os oprimidos, os pecadores. Entre esses marginalizados da sociedade é que Jesus encontra ouvidos atentos e disposição para serem seus discípulos. Por isso, ao proclamar as bem-aventuranças, Jesus exclama: “Felizes vocês, os pobres, porque de vocês é o Reino de Deus” (Lc 6,20).

Leitura do livro do profeta Isaías 2,1-5 – 1Visão de Isaías, filho de Amós, sobre Judá e Jerusalém. 2Acontecerá, nos últimos tempos, que o monte da casa do Senhor estará firmemente estabelecido no ponto mais alto das montanhas e dominará as colinas. A ele acorrerão todas as nações, 3para lá irão numerosos povos e dirão: “Vamos subir ao monte do Senhor, à casa do Deus de Jacó, para que ele nos mostre seus caminhos e nos ensine a cumprir seus preceitos”; porque de Sião provém a lei e de Jerusalém, a palavra do Senhor. 4Ele há de julgar as nações e arguir numerosos povos; estes transformarão suas espadas em arados e suas lanças em foices: não pegarão em armas uns contra os outros e não mais travarão combate. 5Vinde, todos da casa de Jacó, e deixemo-nos guiar pela luz do Senhor. – Palavra do Senhor.

Dize uma só palavra e o meu empregado ficará curado. 9Pois eu também sou subordinado e tenho soldados debaixo de minhas ordens. Refletindo o Evangelho 

Encarregado de manter a ordem social no país, o centurião está a serviço dos ocupantes romanos. No entanto, totalmente desarmado de qualquer preconceito, apresenta sentida súplica ao Senhor Jesus. Reconhece nele um poder superior. Jesus, por sua vez, não lhe pergunta nada. Não lhe fala de religião nem de preceitos morais. Dá ao centurião a certeza de que vai curar seu servo: “Eu irei, e o curarei”. Essa atitude nos faz lembrar a insistência do Papa Francisco para sermos uma Igreja em saída. Jesus não vai à casa do centurião porque este, com fé admirável, poupa esse esforço ao Mestre: “Basta que digas uma palavra e o meu servo ficará curado”. Jesus então engrandece a fé do centurião, que contrasta com a fé pequena de Israel.

Reflecting the Gospel 

In charge of maintaining social order in the country, the centurion is at the service of the Roman occupiers. Nevertheless, totally disarmed of any prejudice, it presents / displays felt supplication to the Lord Jesus. He recognizes in him a higher power. Jesus, for his part, does not ask him anything. It does not speak of religion or of moral precepts. Give the centurion the certainty that he will heal his servant: "I will go, and I will heal him." This attitude reminds us of the insistence of Pope Francis to be an outgoing Church. Jesus does not go to the centurion's house because he, with admirable faith, spares this effort to the Master: "Just say a word and my servant will be healed." Jesus then magnifies the faith of the centurion, which contrasts with the small faith of Israel.
