19 Este foi o testemunho de João, quando os judeus enviaram de Jerusalém sacerdotes e levitas para perguntar: “Quem és tu?” 20 João confessou e não negou. Confessou: “Eu não sou o Messias”. 21 Eles
perguntaram: “Quem és, então? És Elias?” João respondeu: “Não sou”.
Eles perguntaram: “És o Profeta?” Ele respondeu: “Não”. 22 Perguntaram então: “Quem és, afinal? Temos de levar uma resposta àqueles que nos enviaram. Que dizes de ti mesmo?” 23J oão declarou: “Eu sou a voz que grita no deserto: ‘Aplainai o caminho do Senhor’” — conforme disse o profeta Isaías. 24 Ora, os que tinham sido enviados pertenciam aos fariseus 25 e perguntaram: “Por que então andas batizando, se não és o Messias, nem Elias, nem o Profeta?” 26 João respondeu: “Eu batizo com água; mas no meio de vós está aquele que vós não conheceis, 27 e que vem depois de mim. Eu não mereço desamarrar a correia de suas sandálias”. 28 Isso aconteceu em Betânia além do Jordão, onde João estava batizando.

19 This was the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask: "who are you?" 20 John confessed and did not deny. Confessed: "I am not the Messiah." 21 they asked: "who are you, then? Are You Elijah? " John replied, "I'm not". They asked: "are you the Prophet?" He replied: "no". 22 Asked then: "who are you, anyway? We need to get an answer to those who sent us. What do you say of yourself? " 23j oão stated: "I am the voice crying in the wilderness: ' Aplainai the way of the Lord '" — as said the Prophet Isaiah. 24 those who belong to the Pharisees had been sent 25 and asked: "why then are you baptizing if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?" 26 John answered: "I baptize you with water; but among you is he who you don't know, 27 and coming after me. João é a voz que não se cala, é a voz que anuncia e
aponta o caminho, a direção de onde está o Cordeiro de Deus, aquele que
nos salva, resgata-nos e liberta, sobretudo aquele que nos batiza. Quando chegamos a uma conclusão de que o pecado só
causa mal a nossa vida, precisamos querer nos libertar dele, sobretudo,
porque ele causa uma mancha terrível em nosso interior, em nosso
coração. O batismo de João é um batismo simbólico, mas
que realiza uma graça. Porque a graça vem primeiro na vontade, na
pessoa querer, na disposição que ela tem. Essas pessoas vão até João,
porque querem dizer: “Queremos sair dessa vida velha! Queremos abandonar
os pecados que praticamos! Queremos nos lavar daquilo que nos manchou,
que nos deixou mal, que deixou máculas em nossa alma! Queremos ser
purificados e libertos!”. É isso que João propõe a eles e Deus
também propõe a nós. Que permitamos que aquele batismo, um dia
recebido, seja realmente a grande purificação da nossa alma e do nosso
coração a cada dia de nossas vidas. João está muito consciente de que não é só a água
por si mesma, ela não realiza a graça tão eficaz na vida. Quem realiza a
graça é Jesus, o Cordeiro de Deus! Ele não só tira o pecado, mas nos dá
a graça de sermos o homem e a mulher nova, a imagem e semelhança de
Deus. Precisamos nos apontar para Jesus,
direcionarmo-nos para Ele, apontarmos para as pessoas o caminho de
Jesus, pois n’Ele está a salvação, a luz e a graça. Às vezes, buscamos luz e soluções onde não está a
luz nem a solução, e não nos dirigimos nem nos submetemos a Ele, não nos
entregamos ao Seu senhorio, ao Seu domínio e cuidado, para que Ele seja
a luz e a direção da nossa vida.
