Evangelho - João 16,5-11

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo João – Naquele tempo, disse Jesus aos seus discípulos: ⁵“Agora, parto para aquele que me enviou e nenhum de vós me pergunta: ‘Para onde vais?’ ⁶Mas, porque vos disse isso, a tristeza encheu os vossos corações. ⁷No entanto, eu vos digo a verdade: é bom para vós que eu parta; se eu não for, não virá até vós o defensor; mas, se eu me for, eu vo-lo mandarei. ⁸E quando vier, ele demonstrará ao mundo em que consistem o pecado, a justiça e o julgamento: ⁹o pecado, porque não acreditaram em mim; ¹⁰a justiça, porque vou para o Pai, de modo que não mais me vereis; ¹¹e o julgamento, porque o chefe deste mundo já está condenado”. – Palavra da salvação.

Proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ According to John - At that time Jesus said to his disciples, 5 "Now I am going to the one who sent me, and none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' But, because I told you this, filled your hearts. 7 But I tell you the truth: it is good for you that I depart; if I do not go, the defender will not come to you; but if I go, I will send it to you. 8And when he cometh, he will shew unto the world where sin, and righteousness, and judgment, are: 9 Sin, because they have not believed in me; For I go to the Father, so that you will see me no more; And judgment, because the ruler of this world is already condemned. " - Word of salvation.

Refletindo o Evangelho

Três aspectos sobressaem neste trecho: Primeiro, o retorno de Jesus ao Pai. Segundo, o imediato envio do Espírito Santo. Terceiro,  a atuação do Espírito Santo em favor das comunidades cristãs. Os discípulos mergulharam na tristeza, porque haveriam de enfrentar tribulações. Porém, serão beneficiados com a volta de Jesus ao Pai. Jesus tem de ser glorificado antes de enviar o Espírito (cf. Jo 7,39). O Espírito Santo vai esclarecer o significado da obra de Jesus. Mostrará que a sociedade que não acreditou em Jesus e o matou cometeu pecado; que Jesus de fato é inocente, pois veio do Pai e volta ao Pai; que o “chefe deste mundo” (o mal) está condenado. É um julgamento que se prolonga na história. Ao mesmo tempo o Espírito age como defensor dos cristãos e como acusador dos que não creem em Cristo.

Reflecting the Gospel

"Three aspects stand out in this passage: First, the return of Jesus to the Father. Second, the immediate sending of the Holy Spirit. Third, the work of the Holy Spirit in favor of Christian communities. The disciples plunged in sorrow, because they would face tribulations. However, they will benefit from the return of Jesus to the Father. Jesus must be glorified before sending the Spirit (cf. Jn 7,39). The Holy Spirit will clarify the meaning of Jesus' work. It will show that the society that did not believe in Jesus and killed him committed sin; that Jesus is indeed innocent, since he came from the Father and returns to the Father; that the "chief of this world" (evil) is doomed. It is a trial that goes on in history. At the same time the Spirit acts as a defender of Christians and as an accuser of those who do not believe in Christ."
